Recycling at Kawakawa

Here is a piece of writing from Te Aroha about recycling at school. She used great language to persuade her audience. She has some strong reasons to support her opinion. Well done Te Aroha.

WE SHOULD RECYCLE AT KAWAKAWA PRIMARY?

Do you want to stop pollution? Recycling is a great way to help the environment and save it from things such as pollution, Global warming and climate change. I strongly believe that we should recycle our rubbish at Kawakawa primary school. When you recycle your helping your community, school and the world to make it a safer and cleaner place. People are causing massive problems that are damaging our planet that’s why i think we need to recycle at Kawakawa primary school.

Firstly Do you want to make our environment more cleaner? i think that recycling would be a great way to help the environment to stop it from global warming and pollution. Recycling will improve our chances of climate change and save our animals from pollution. It’s vital for us to have clean air when your recycling it helps us lower the amount of rubbish that we throw into our bins. When you don’t recycle your rubbish ends up into the landfill going into the earth.

Secondly it’s a great way to teach the younger students about how to look after Papatuanuku and the animals. When they grow up they can learn to recycle their rubbish to help save our environment and teach their children to recycle. If we recycle at Kawakawa primary we will teach other students how to recycle and what to do to keep our school clean. Recycling can make our school cleaner and might influence other schools to recycle as well.

Finally all schools around New Zealand and the world need to learn how to take care of the earth and their communities as well as their school to help our chances of pollution, climate change and global warming slimmer. Scientists believe that the main cause for global warming is humans and all the oils and gases that are going into the atmosphere also destroying the ozone layer which is protecting us from the heat of the sun.

Kawakawa primary school needs to recycle to stop pollution and other events happening around earth. It will influence other schools as well to recycle and will teach younger students to look after our planet. I am adamant that we should recycle at Kawakawa primary school to save our planet and influence other schools to do the same.

Sun hats at school

Here is Alex's introduction for 'Should all children have to wear a sunhat at school?'. She worked really hard on this, using rhetorical questions and  research to back up her opinions.

Do you want to prevent yourself with skin cancer? Did you know each year 4000 people are diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer),which  up to 11 people per day being diagnosed. Over 300 New Zealanders die of  melanoma, although maori and pacific people have a low chance of getting affected by the cause.  I believe we need to make sun hats compulsory in Nz schools to help in the prevention of skin cancer. Firstly,we need hats to be compulsory as children get affected by it in the young stages of their life.  Secondly, if we make hats in school compulsory, more schools over the world may change their rule for hats to be compulsory. Finally,  no one wants to be diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer,as we all wanna last as long as we can and not worry that we have issues with our health. Make hats at school compulsory before our younger ones get burnt so bad that they  could have  speckles of cancer in our body.

Sun Hats at School? By Tyissa

We did Exposition writing in term 1. We had a workshop on how to write an opening statement using a rhetorical question. The students did really well at this and were able to use research to support their opinions. Here is Tyissa's writing on should we have to wear sun hats at school. What is your opinion on the topic.

Sun Hats
Do you want to be a one of the people diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer)? Over 4000 New Zealanders are diagnosed every year with melanoma. Do you want to be one of these people? I agree that sunhats should be compulsory in New Zealand schools. Firstly, hats can stop you from getting sunburnt. Secondly, it should be a compulsory requirement at our new Zealand schools Lastly, some hats  can be a big fashion statement.

So to begin with there are a lot of people in New Zealand that are diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer) each year, even each day, so how do you think we can decrease this ? Well did you know that sun hats can do a lot to help you to prevent yourself from getting melanoma. Hats stop the sun from beaming onto your face and burning your nose which is one of the most common places where you can get melanoma. Sun hats should be compulsory at our New Zealand school!

Secondly, I strongly believe that wearing sun hats at school during lunch and morning tea should be a compulsory rule. Kids needs to be protected because their skin is more delicate and burns easier than adults skin so if kids keep putting their hats on it becomes a habit and then they are protecting themselves without even thinking about.

Lastly, not only can hats protect you from the sun it could also be a fashion statement you can support your local teams and even other big teams by wearing their hat like the chicago bulls ect , it can go with your outfit and you can show your individuality.

So in conclusion, I am adamant that sun hats should be compulsory in our New Zealand schools. Some hats can actually be apart of a big fashion frenzy and should it be a rule at each school because melanoma can kill people. So, I strongly recommend to go out and buy you a sun hat today!
